Extremely Rare Platinum Sterling Silver Hand Carved Fountain Pen circa 1930s For Sale

An incredibly rare, vintage sterling silver fountain pen from 1930s Japan. It was produced by the Platinum Pen Company and boasts a gorgeous hand-carved leaf design on cap and barrel. It was clearly inspired by Parker's Vacumatic since both its clip and nib have the classic arrow designs found on Vacumatics. An identical pen is shown in Fountain Pens of Japan by Andreas Lambrou and Masamichi Sunami on page 295, the only difference being that, unlike my pen, it has a silver clip with no Platinum stamping. The cap band is stamped with the Platinum company branding and PURE SILVER. The 14k medium nib is a joy to write with. Unlike most Vacumatics whose nibs are typically stiff, the nib on this pen is slightly soft, and has just the right amount of give. When writing you actually feel like you're using a pen from the 1930s. Anyone who's used a vintage nib that's been broken in knows exactly what I mean. The experience is completely different and unique from modern fountain pens. It's a smooth writer but very occasionally it can get scratchy on the upstrokes so it might need a bit of tuning. It's a lever filler and is fully functioning. My photos don't do this pen any justice. It's absolutely gorgeous and a true rarity and would make a great addition to any serious collection.
