Artist :Jocelyn Vote \"Kocha Hon Mana\" (White Bear Girl)
Size : 8.5\" H
Jocelyn “Honani” Vote “Kocha Hon Mana” (White Bear Girl), a member of the Water Clan and Bear Clan, was born in Yuma Arizona in 1962 into the Hopi Nation. Continuing the ancient traditions of her people is extremely important to her, as she is a teacher by profession. It\'s a very enjoyable hobby that allows her to relax.
Jocelyn is the only one of a handful of women artists who still carve Kachina dolls by hand. She specializes in Hopi Kachina dolls hand-carved from poplar roots. She began her curiosity at the age of 7, inspired by her late uncle Hubert Honani, who was also a very talented Hopi kachina carver. Her kachinas have become highly detailed since she began carving them at the age of 19. Jocelyn signs her work as: Kocha Hon Mana, her Hopi Indian name.
Jocelyn is related to : Aaron and Ernest Honani, who are her cousins, and the late Hubert Honani (her uncle).
Jocelyn passed away in 2012, at the age of 50. Rest in Peace.
