Rare VTG c1960 EVERSHARP Silver Tone 10.000 Cartridge Fountain Pen 7001-S W Box:
$59.00

This vintage fountain pen is a must-have for any pen collector or enthusiast. Made by WAHL-EVERSHARP, or Parker Eversharp, in the United States in the 1960s, this stainless steel pen has a medium nib size and comes with a 10,000 cartridge. The ink color is of your choice, and the pen is made of metal and plastic materials. This fountain pen is perfect for everyday use or as a display piece in your collection. The package includes the box and an empty cartridge that can be used to purchase refill cartridges.
This is an Eversharp "10,000" Cartridge fountain pen in black body & silver tone metal cap, c. 1960-1962. The 5 1/8 inch long fountain pen comes with an inset stainless steel nib marked MEDIUM with the nib grade in a tapered ribbed section. The chrome plated metal slip on cap is unusually short and has a ribbed body color "fedora" cap top feature. The clip has the Eversharp logo and just below on the cap is Eversharp in script. The back of the cap has the Parker logo over MADE IN USA. Advertisements for this model start in the fall of 1960 and continue through 1962. They came in six colors, including black, grey, white, blue, green and red. The name for the fountain pen derived from the claim that it's cartridge, "America’s largest," could write 10,000 words without refilling. It retailed for $1.98 on a hang card or in a box and included two ink cartridges. By 1962 they were being advertised with an optional 49 cent converter. Marketing and packaging featured the Eversharp name prominently but included Parker.

This pen model was released a few months after Parker acquired Eversharp and as such is actually mostly designed by Eversharp, rather than Parker. It is also the very first cartridge filler ever released by Parker. The model was produced from 1958 to 1962 and the design heavily inspired the Parker 45, the first cartridge filler under the direct Parker brand name.

In the late 1950s, Parker acquired the remains of Eversharp from the Wahl company, and named the new division the Parker Eversharp Pen Company. One of their first products was the 10,000, the first of numerous pens of a wide range of Eversharp and Parker designs, but more importantly, Parker’s first cartridge filler (the marketing was 10,000 words in a cartridge) and the direct parent of the highly successful Parker 45. It didn’t last long: the 10,000 was gone by 1964 and the division closed by Parker in 1968. Another important part of the Eversharp purchase was its easily removable cartridge, which was integrated into a new plastic pen, Parker's first pen since the Vacumatic with an all plastic cap. The pen had been largely produced by Eversharp, and called the Big E, so Parker added its almost identical 19. The nibs are basically the same as those in the Parker 45, so these are wonderful writers, if perhaps not as durable as the 45.
