1918 Gillette/ABC Empire Pocket Edition in Silver Plate.
This is the holy grail of the antique Gillette Pocket Editions, the ever-sought after Empire pattern, sporting a gorgeous Victorian design on the silver plated case and razor handle.
The razor has some exposed brass, mostly on the lower half of the raised parts of the handle, and a spot on the neck. The Gillette logo is nearly worn, though the made in U.S.A marking and the serial number are both visible. On the subject of the serial number, it is H457116, dating the set to 1918. The handle must've had something dropped into it at some point because it has a slight rattle when shaken. It doesn't affect anything, but it's something to mention.
Blade Bank is nickel plated rather than silver and is in nice shape. It's empty, ready for your favorite blades to fill it!
Case has seemingly been re-lined with fresh velvet at some point. It's a darker eggplant shade of purple rather than the royal purple or occasionally wine color that Gillette used in these. The silver plating is about the same as the razor, with a few spots of exposed brass, mainly on the monogramming spot and on the underside. The latch is solid.
These don't come along as complete sets very often, so shoot an offer to add perhaps the most beautiful razor ever made to your collection!
As with all my listings, everything has been boiled for sanitary reasons and then polished with a jeweler's cloth.
