Vintage 1940s US NAVY CALIFORNIA OLD WEST POSTCARDS Hotel Stationary Hospital For Sale

A collection of well-preserved 1940s Americana stationary. Includes humorous US Navy cards, Union Oil, Dixie Hotel, and Jack Dempsey's Broadway Restaurant.

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this great collection of 1940s postcards. This lot features some very rare and colorful humorous postcards from the US Navy, as well as tourist spots throughout the United States.

Humorous to the end, there are a number of US Navy postcards in this lot, colorful cartoons of Navy life, and one parody on the Lord's Prayer (tastefully done) reflecting life as a sailor. Also included are many famous hotels, such as the Hotel Dixie in New York. The lot contains several of these cards and even some room stationary. This includes Jack Dempsey's famous Broadway Restaurant, Paprin's Bar and Lounge, and The Philadelphia Naval Hospital. A couple of the cards have glossy color prints of Death Valley, part of the See The Old West campaign by Union Oil in 1941, obviously pre war.

These cards generally fit within the 3 1`/2 x 5 1/2 inch size. The stationary is 6 x 9 1/4 inches. The lot weighs 3 ounces.

The majority of these cards are in fantastic shape considering their age. The edges and corners are clean and clear and the color on the cartoons and Death Valley cards is vibrant. The black and white card of the Naval hospital has a pin hole in its upper left corner and some wrinkling on the lower left corner. Similarly, the black and white band photo card is curled at the edges, but still should mount well in a display. The original room stationary from the Hotel Dixie is folded in three, but neither sheet has any rips, tears or dog ears. This lot is special in that the majority of them were never mailed anywhere, and those that were have vintage postage stamps on them.

These postcards create a snapshot in time and would be a great addition to anyone's collection!
