Vintage Chicago Hardware Hammered No 3 Cast Iron Skillet Restored Condition For Sale

This is a nice example of a Chicago Hardware Foundry (CHF) hammered finish No 3 skillet from the mid 1930s. CHF cast iron was only produced for a short time and their hammered finished cookware are prized among collectors. The cooking surface has a few spots of fine etchingfrom corrosion and hints of utensil scores.Three sheets of printer paper slipped under one edge of the bottom stops movement on a granite surface. No chips, cracks or repairs and does not spin.

Test for flatness of skillet. With the skillet resting on a polished granite surface, press down all along the top rim searching for movement. If movement is found, slip pieces of printer paper under one edge of the until pot stops moving.

This item was stripped down to baremetal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. Thisprocess ensures the removal of all residue from previous use making it safe touse once more. The item is lightly seasoned with one round of Crisco at 450 for1 hour. This item was photographed in very bright light to highlight finedetails. Under these lighting conditions, items may take on a brown color.Items are much darker under normal light.
