1890s Victorian Couple Early Safety Bicycle Cabinet Photo Cycling Woman: $65.00
Original cabinet-card-size antique photograph showing a Victorian-era man and woman posed with an early “safety bicycle.” The woman’s fashionable puffed sleeves help date the image to approximately 1895–1900.Introduced during the late 19th century, the safety bicycle had two similarly sized wheels, a chain-driven rear wheel, and a low diamond-shaped frame—essentially the design of the modern bicycle. It was called “safe” because it was far easier and less dangerous to ride than the towering penny-farthing. The new design helped make cycling enormously popular and gave women unprecedented freedom of movement during the 1890s.A wonderful piece of early cycling, transportation, and women’s social history. The photograph has rounded corners and a completely blank reverse. No photographer or location is identified.Condition: Noticeable age-related fading, light surface marks, minor edge wear, and staining along the upper edge of the reverse. Please examine all photographs carefully.Approximate date: 1895–1900 Format: Cabinet-card-size photographic print Subject: Victorian couple with early safety bicycle Reverse: BlankGuaranteed original—this is not a modern reproduction.
