Antique Decorative 1886 Crazy Quilt in Velvet and Silk w/ Fine Embroidery B205 For Sale

An exquisite quilt which is dated 1886 - no signature. It is beautifully made with very fine stitchwork and elegant silks and velvets, but what’s really unusual is the embroidered and applique bits mostly around the perimeter. There are beautifully embroidered flowers and applique leaves. Most exceptionally, there is an applique stuffed bird in one corner. It is backed in maroon silk. This is a very special piece! It would make a beautiful decoration on any piece of furniture or framed on the wall.

The condition is very good/excellent. We find two or three tears in the quilt - unusually good for a silk piece of this age. Most damaged, however, is the black silk behind the applique bird. The edges also have some damage, as pictured. These problems do not interfere with the overall beauty of the piece.
