Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimú Inca, mace head presenting a disc-pattern with a hole the center. A very lethal weapon made to be attached to a solid shaft used to bludgeon one's adversaries! Designed as a lethal weapon, the circular form attests to the Chimú's' reverence for the celestial realm - most specifically the moon. The preferred weapons of battle and hunting in ancient Peru were the mace and the spear. A mace head would have been affixed to the end of a wooden club, and it was deployed primarily for hand-to-hand combat. A mace head could be embellished and experimented with by the artisans that made them. This one has a well refined simplicity that yields a forms in stone reflective of the moon; which the Chimú worshiped.
