Dollar Line - A beautiful custom-built model of the PRESIDENT GARFIELD of 1921 in 1:300th scale.

The model is 21" long and well-detailed with rigging, lifeboats, masts, deck machinery, railings, and even windows and doors inside the Promenade Deck.

The skilled builder was C. Leslie Oursler (1913-1987), a Maryland native who became a maritime artist after retiring from a career in the shipping industry. Oursler's paintings of Chesapeake Bay steamers are prized in museums. But his models are far rarer.

The PRESIDENT GARFIELD is crafted out of balsa wood, thread, and Oursler's steady hand for sketching in windows, doors, and skylights. According to his friend Jack Shaum, the lifeboats and a few bits of deck machinery were the only pieces purchased while the rest was made by condition.
