Original Vintage 1947 American Legion Jr Promo Pen & Pencil Set, Ex Leyland’s For Sale

Offered is a rare 1947 promotional pen and pen set in its original box promoting American Legion Junior Baseball. They do not appear used. The original owner inscribed “Philadelphia” in script on the inside panels of the gift box (refer to scan). Ford motor company was heavily involved. In fact, Babe Ruth was serving as Ford Motor Company’s Junior Legion baseball consultant and made appearances at sectional tournaments around the country. These aren’t simply old advertising pens. They document the intersection of American Legion baseball + Ford Motor Company + youth baseball + 1947 postseason baseball. From what I can tell:

Manufacturer: an unidentified promotional novelty-pen manufacturer

Customer/sponsor: Ford Motor Company / Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealers

Occasion: 1947 American Legion Junior Baseball program

Distribution: probably through Ford dealers and/or at the tournaments
