This is a rare autographed 5x8 photo of former Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission and former Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Rand Paul Dixon. It also includes a typewritten Federal Trade Commission bio from March 18, 1963.
The text of the bio:
PAUL RAND DIXON
"Chairman, Democrat, born September 29, 1913, at Nashville, Tennessee. Son of James David Dixon (deceased) and Sarah Munn Dixon. Attended public schools in Davidson County, Tenn. Received A.B. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1936 and LL.B. degreen from University of Florida in 1938. Played quarterback on Vanderbilt University varsity football team and was assistant football coach at University of Florida while attending law school. Joined Federal Trade Commission as a Trial Attorney in July 1938 and subsequently engaged in both antimonolopy and antideceptive practice work. In February 1957 joined the Senate Antitrust and Monopoly Subcommittee as Counsel and Staff Director. Assisted Subcommittee in developing and focusing attention of Congress and public on important problems in the field of restraints of trade, including adminstered prices in many major industries. Sworn in as Chairman of Federal Trade Commission on March 21, 1961, for a term of office expiring September 25, 1967. Served with the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. Commissioned a Lieutenant (j.G.), he spent 23 months overseas and participated in occupation of Africa and invasion and occupation of Sicily. Entitled to wear three battle stars and presently is leiutenant Commander, U.S.N.R. (Ret.). Member of Alumni Board of Directors of Vanderbilt University. President, Vanderbilt University Alumni Association, Washington, D.C., 1954-55. President, Tennessee State Society, Washington, D.C., 1958-59, and Executive Board, 1960 - Member of American Bar and Federal Bar Associations, Washington, D.C., and Judicial Bars of States of Tennesee and Florida. Member, Nashville Quarterback Club, Nashville, Tenn.; Naval Officers Club, Bethesda, Md.; Kenwood Golf and Country Club, Bethesda, Md.; National Lawyers Club, Washington, D.C.; and Alpha Tau Omega Alumni. Honorary member, Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity. Member, Metropolitan Memorial Methodist Church, Washington, D.C., and George Whiting Masonic Lodge No. 22, Washington, D.C. Nominee for SPORTS ILLUSTRATED All American Silver Anniversary Award for 1960. Married to the former Doris Busby of Laurel, Mississippi. They have two sons, David Leslie, 16, and Paul Randall, Jr., 13. They reside at..."
Dixon would serve as Chairman of the FTC from March 21, 1961 to September 25, 1981 during the presidencies of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan. He passed away May 2, 1996 at age 82.
