Saltair was a famous resort located on the Great Salt Lake in Utah.
Initial listing photos show the poster in frame, followed by images showing the poster and details without the frame. Sold with the frame included. Saltair was a famous Moorish-style lakeside resort on the Great Salt Lake in Utah, originally built in 1893 by the Mormon Church as a wholesome recreational destination with a huge dance floor, amusement rides, and swimming. Despite its popularity and grand architecture, it faced many challenges over the years eventually leading to closure, despite rebuilding after a catastrophic fire in 1925 and the park\'s eventual ruin. A new concert venue now stands near the original Saltair site.THE POSTER: The center design is focused within a green circle that features a line drawing of the original 1893 Saltair architectural pavilion above the message: \"DANCING / Every Saturday at SALTAIR / $1.50 Per Person / 9:00 PM / Begins July 29.\" Saltair was renowned for its massive dance floor, often advertised as the world\'s largest. The dance hall was a central feature of the resort, alongside swimming and amusement park rides, drawing people for live bands and dancing.
Poster Date: This poster is dated circa 1950 through research and process of elimination based on the Saturday, July 29 date. Saltair closed its final summer season in 1958. Between 1935 and 1960, Saturday July 29th was a calendar date in three years only: 1939, 1944, and 1950.
More: The poster design overall and in detail post-dates the 1930s, particularly given the typefaces used. Saltair was closed during World War II, thus ruling out 1944. Saltair reopened after World War II, but closed its final season in the fall of 1958. For these reasons this poster is attributed to having been printed for the summer season of 1950. Poster is in a black woodgrain frame. Overall dimensions of the framed piece: 13.75 inches x 19.75 inches x about 0.75 inches.
The poster itself measures 12 inches x 18 inches.
Condition notes: The poster itself appears to have at one time been displayed using tape and staples. The poster shows staple punctures, tape marks and surface losses from tape removal, moisture tidelines, losses at top and bottom to the poster material, abrasions, rubbing, some discoloration and/or soil. No attempt has been made to clean or restore the poster; it is as found. The frame is a recent addition. I pack with care and ship promptly.Thank you for your interest in this listing.
