Vintage 1960s Mexico Wooden Salt Pepper Shakers Painted Geometric Folk Art For Sale

Each has a tall tapered pedestal form with a flared foot and removable natural-wood shaker top.

What really makes this pair is the decoration.

The two coordinate without being identical, with bands of red, coral, burgundy, purple and black accented by fine gold-tone geometric linework and incised details. Together they have the wonderfully graphic character associated with mid-century Mexican decorative and tourist wares.

The underside of one shaker retains a visible MADE IN MEXICO stamp. Both bases also have old handwritten numbers and notations. Their purpose is unknown, so we have left them exactly as found rather than attempting to interpret or remove them.

Similar Mexican wooden shaker forms are commonly dated by sellers to the 1960s, including comparable pedestal examples with geometric decoration; however, no maker or workshop has been identified for this particular pair.

Good vintage condition with attractive age-earned character.

Expect surface rubbing, scratches, small marks and areas of paint and finish wear consistent with age and use. The painted and incised decoration remains strong, colorful and visually striking.

Vintage handwritten notations remain on the undersides.
