An INFERNO Crossover Set of (3) High-Grade Comic BooksFor many a modern day X-MEN fan or collector, neither the adventures of X-FACTOR -- the original 5 X-Men's new team, formed after they left the X-Men in new hands -- nor the many published issues which comprised X-FACTOR (1986), the series that chronicled those adventures, ever find their way into a longbox. And that's understandable, for X-Factor has been a long-overlooked spin-off of Uncanny X-Men for nearly four decades.
Now, and especially for X-MEN '97 fans, this is beginning to change -- and likely, it's a change that will stick. Case in point: TRISH TILBY. In the Disney+ series, you can't miss her. The reporter whose beat is all things Mutant and whose relationship with BEAST is shown across several episodes, Trish Tilby is a relatively small part of the series, an easily dismissed supporting character or minor detail. But in such a short animated season, in which every inch of animated real estate counts, Trish Tilby's mere presence on-screen is a thing worthy of consideration.
Showrunner and series writer BEAU DE MAYO, of course, pulled the character of Trish from X-Factor, in which she played no more of a role than she has in X-Men '97. If De Mayo believed her important, and she's minor, then she's but the tip of the iceberg of all the more important X-Men '97 contributions one will discover in the pages of X-Factor.
Indeed, much of the animated series' third episode and even some of its unforgettable and emotionally devastating fifth episode came from X-Factor's INFERNO CROSSOVER issues with the X-Flagship series, Uncanny X-Men. Indeed, the entirety of the drama and conflict between JEAN GREY and MADELYN SUMMERS is X-Factor stuff, and that stuff all occurs in the SET OF THREE ISSUES available here, X-FACTOR #36,37,38. Hell, just look at WALT SIMONSON's fantastic cover art for X-Factor #37 or the cover of X-Factor #38 and the importance of these issues, and the series overall, is easily made.
