Notes: These pairs of ants are often referred to as "fighting ants", but where they are the same species, it is more likely that they are trying to assist each other out of the resin and ended up both being trapped in the process. Fossil inclusions in amber are the most spectacularly preserved fossils in the entire fossil record. For the rest of the fossil record, you will occasionally have soft tissue preservation. However, in amber the preservation is so extraordinary you can sometimes see every facet of the insects eye.
