1850s POSTAL COVER & LETTER - GREENE, MAINE - NEGATIVE TEACHING EVALUATION For Sale

We are offering a Postal Cover & Letter regarding a teaching evaluation. The letter has a 3 cent George Washington hand-canceled stamp, and a hand-written postmark \"Greene, ME, March 13\". This is a fancy little envelope with an embossed floral border. The letter has no date, but it\'s likely 1850s. The letter is to George H. Dillingham, Auburn, Maine and is from J. Williams, Jr., Greene, Maine. There is quite a bit written in the letter, but we are just mentioning a little bit of it.
Williams says that the Supervisor [of schools] told the people of Auburn about the schoolteacher\'s apprentice on Dillingham Hill [referring to George Dillingham, we assume]. \"He thought that I succeeded better in teaching Arithmetic and Algebra, than at Grammar and other studies. He is right, as the students didn\'t make as good a progress on the last [mentioned subjects] as they did on the first. I didn\'t take much interest in those subjects, still I am conceited enough to think I had much improved\".Williams says, \"I would like to attend school with you [to improve in those subjects?] but poverty says I can\'t\". George Dillingham apparently was well off as he lived on Dillingham Hill.
