1910s Negro League Baseball House Of David Maritime Rising Sun Ship Cabinet Card For Sale

1900’s to 1910’s Minnie M cabinet card. The Minnie M was a steamship that was purchased by Benjamin Purnell of the House of David for his Great Waters Transportation Company. It was used for logging of High Island Michigan. The House of David renamed the ship the Rising Sun. The Purnell’s named the Rising Sun after the city in Ohio. The Purnell’s lived in Rising Sun just before their move to Fostoria in 1902. House of David historians claim the formation of the House of David toke place in Fostoria. Perhaps there was a little more significance to the Purnell’s time in Rising Sun. If the Purnell’s were the trekkers in the 1880’s and 1890’s that history tells, seems there must of been an event of importance in their time in Rising Sun for them to name a vessel after it. Clara Boley Elder was quoted in the 1920’s giving the history of the Purnell’s in Ohio. The article is used in the documentary “Life Evetlasting.” Clara stated the Purnell’s had history in Fostoria previous to their move there in 1902. The House of David were the last owners of the steamer Rising Sun. It sank in Lake Michigan. Cabinet card measures about 10 by 14 inch in size. Stains, toning and wear.
