ABRAHAM LINCOLN ENGRAVING ON SILK by PAUL DURAND circa 1865 - RARE For Sale

We are offering a RARE engraving by artist, Paul Durand of Lyon, France, of Abraham Lincoln printed on silk. (3 3/4" x 5 1/2") The engraving, made from a portrait of Lincoln, was made after Lincoln's death. Below Lincoln it says, "Depose 1865", which when translated to English is "Removed 1865", referring to Lincoln's death. It also says, "Tisse par Guillet" - Woven by Guillet. A banner across Lincoln's chest says, "E Pluribus Unum", with the American Eagle below holding stems of olive leaves in one claw [symbols of peace] and arrows in the other [symbolizing war, if necessary]. **NOTE** - The silk comes in a glass window display case.
