Exceptional Large-scale Jonathan Beyuka Zuni Hoop Dancer Bolo For Sale

This large-scale hoop dancer bolo by Jonathan Beyuka is truly an exceptional work of Zuni artistry. The slide measures 5.75 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide, and it is in excellent condition. Jonathan is the son of renowned Zuni artist Edward Beyuka, and the family tradition of outstanding silver and  lapidary craftsmanship is apparent in this piece. It consists of blue turquoise, red coral, black jet, yellow-lip, and white mother-of-pearl, with precise fitting. Some pieces are carved and slightly raised above the others. The sterling silver work nicely complements the overall piece and it shows a splendid patina.

Three of the hoops have swivel points of attachment allowing them to move while wearing the bolo. This truly is a "motion piece." It could be worn as a pendent as well. The long leather braided cord has exceptional drum dangles attached to the sterling tips, characteristic of the Beyuka style.

The slide is hallmarked JB as Jonathan Beyuka signed his work from this era, and it has a Bennett Pat. Pend. clasp initially available to artisans in 1967.
