Extraordinary Vintage French Wine Bottle Washer, 19th century, Pretty Rare For Sale

This is a very ingenious device, the bottle washer clampsonto the edge of a wood barrel or tub full of water with the crank handleoutside the barrel. The washer is made with a brass tub/shaft that has abuilt-in water pump at the lower end that pumps water up to the wire brushes atthe top end of the shaft as you crank the handle. You simple inverted your winebottle, slide the brass sleeve up to compress the brush and place the bottle on thetop of the brass shaft and push down, the outer sleeve of the shaft slides downand the brushes are exposed. You crank the handle the brushes rotate, and thepump pulls water up the shaft and sprays it out on the wire brushes the waterthen falls into the brass cup and out the drain hole back into the barrel.

This fascinating device from France was used approximately120 years ago as a way to clean the inside of wine bottles.
