You find a tattered journal with all but the last pages torn out peeking out from beneath a pile of weathered mossy bones. A beautiful, aged mask is gripped tightly within a vicelike skeletal grasp. As you admire the mask, something cold and heavy settles in your stomach, and dark, fearful thoughts caress your mind with their spidery limbs. You look away and turn your attention to the tattered journal. If we would have listened to Bob's incessant pissing and moaning and the superstitious ramblings of the villagers maybe... maybe we'd all be downing warm pints in the tavern now. Not dead. Not lost to the stifling madness within that profane stone womb. I'm... I'm alone now, yet something gnaws at the edge of my mind, something frigid and dreadful. The cursed thing... the mask tingles in my hand. I feel crawling beneath my skin. Did it... did it whisper? No. No. No."
Next Entry:"I was wrong. I'm not alone. I wish I was. I wish I was. The mask- The mask isn't what it seems. It's beautiful. It's so beautiful, but there's a sickening wrongness about it. It's unnerving to stare at. It burrows into your mind and ingrains its primordial fingers into the deepest and darkest recesses of your mind, the recesses you're too afraid to explore. It lurks at the very edge of your consciousness and taunts you with maddening whispers of incomprehensible things. Things you feel like you're on the precipice of understanding. It's not just a mask. Something lives within it, a terrible fathomless creature beyond the ability to understand. It relishes in the torment it causes me. I can almost feel it laugh as madness begins to ravage me. I miss the quiet. It will never be quiet inside again. When it's quiet outside, the whispers are deafening and endless. I want it to stop. I want it to stop. I won't wear it. I won't wear it. I know how to make it quiet."Everything that follows the last entry is barely legible and new to selling so please bear with me! What you are buying here is a decorative replica of the Soul Mask worn by Fable's Jack of Blades. It's not really intended to be worn as I made this mask with being collectible in mind. As such I don't recommend letting children play with it, but once you buy the mask what you do with it is entirely up to you. I made the mask out of sturdy, resinous clay which I primed for painting with a white primer layer. After priming the mask, I painted the basic colors using acrylic paint and then painted the gold details using extreme sheen 24k gold paint to mimic real gold. I then used antiquing medium and crackle glaze to age the mask before I used an acrylic sealer and twine to finish it. I did this all by hand which means it took a long time for me to complete. All I used was a design reference and a plastic mask base to sculpt.
I plan to make more Soul masks with multiple variations if there are enough people are interested.
