Isaac Stollman(Hebrew: יצחק סטולמן) was a noted rabbi, author and religiousZionist leader.

Biography

He was born in Russia[1]in 1897. He studied at some of the most prominentYeshivosincludingthe Yeshiva of theChofetz ChaiminRadin,[2]theSlobodka yeshiva, andtheNovardok yeshiva. Hereceived rabbinical ordination fromShimonShkop,Moshe Mordechai Epsteinandothers. In 1924, he immigrated to the United States where he served as rabbi inDetroit, Michigan. In 1925, he became rabbi of the Mishkan Israel synagogue[3]which was built by his two younger brothers, real estatedevelopers, Max andPhillipStollman.[4][5][6][7]In Detroit he was active in many areas of Jewish life. Heserved as leader ofYoung Israel, the Stoliner Synagogue, theBeth Yehudah school, the Jewish Community Council, and was also on the board oftheJewish Federation.[8]In 1957, having served as vice-president ofMizrachi-Hapoel HamizrachiofAmerica for years,[9]he was elected president of that organization,[10][11]re-elected in 1959,[12]and remained in that position till 1960.[13]He was the president of theDetroitRabbinicalCouncil and the author of the acclaimed[14][15]Minchas Yitzchak on the Pentateuch.[16]Upon Stollman's death in 1980,EmanuelRackmanrepresentingBar-Ilan Universityreferredto Rabbi Stollman as a "distinguished Rabbi and scholar and outstandingReligious Zionist leader".[17]RabbiNorman LammrepresentingYeshiva Universityreferredto Stollman as "an outstanding scholar and Zionist."[18]
