Beautiful antique John Maddock & Sons Ltd. Royal Ivory “Minerva” serving set, made in England and dating to the late 1920s Art Deco period.
The set includes 2 coordinating pieces:
* Lidded sugar tureen / serving bowl — approximately 4.5” high with lid and 5.5” across the rim.
* Open sugar / waste bowl — approximately 2.5” high and 5” across the rim.
Both feature the distinctive Minerva decoration on a warm ivory ground, with colorful cobalt blue, orange, red and green florals complemented by mustard-yellow/ochre ornamental detailing. The angular, faceted forms and scalloped edges are especially attractive and give the pieces wonderful 1920s Art Deco character.
The lidded piece has a particularly decorative finial and makes a striking display piece. The open bowl has a coordinating ornamental border and small floral motif inside.
