This unusual vase consists of two joined circular moon flasks, each with its own cylindrical neck and decorative foot. One side features a colorful Chinese-inspired dragon surrounded by stylized clouds, while the opposite flask displays a large lotus blossom with scrolling green foliage. Geometric motifs and intricate borders continue around both narrow sides.
The vivid turquoise, cobalt blue, yellow, green, pink and red decoration is outlined in relief, creating the cloisonné-like enameled appearance associated with French Longwy-style pottery. The underside bears a worn intertwined Gien factory mark.
A striking and difficult-to-find form for collectors of antique Gien, French faience, Japonisme, Chinoiserie and 19th-century decorative pottery.
