Antique Spain Postcard Booklet La Linea Cadiz Gibraltar 12 Cards Unposted For Sale

A complete Spanish souvenir postcard carnet, Recuerdo de La Linea, Cadiz, published by Casa Eleuterio Tabera, with all twelve collotype view cards still bound in and never torn out. The backs are printed Tarjeta Postal / Union Postal Universal / Espana.

Four of the twelve are views of the Rock of Gibraltar seen from the Spanish side: the panorama from Los Huertos, the Carretera de Gibraltar with a crowd and a horse cab on the frontier road, the Carretera General running along the causeway, and Gibraltar from the Playa de Poniente with lateen-rigged fishing boats drawn up on the sand. The rest are La Linea itself: Calle Real and Calle Jose Luis de Torres thick with people, the Plaza de Farinas under its palms, the Comandancia Militar with its kiosk and waiting carriage, the ornamental iron arch of the Paseo de la Velada, the panorama toward Sierra Carbonera, and the interior of the Plaza de Toros.

These are animated views, full of figures in period dress going about an ordinary day, which is what separates them from the empty architectural cards of the same era.

Condition is good throughout. The kraft card cover shows light edge wear and a small tan stain at the upper right. All twelve cards are present, attached, unused, none postally used and none written on. Light even toning. Ships free in a rigid mailer.
