See Photos. Pre-owned antique pillow cover with age-appropriate wear throughout. Front silk face shows overall toning and yellowing to the cream/off-white background, general surface soil, and fold crease lines throughout. Navy blue printed graphics remain bold, clear, and fully legible. Fringe shows age discoloration — mixed brown, mauve, and cream tones consistent with the period. Reverse is olive drab/khaki cotton fabric showing general toning and a concentrated darker stain patch in the upper-center area, with additional lighter marks scattered throughout. No label or manufacturer’s tag present. No tears, holes, or fringe loss visible.

Original WWI-era U.S. Army souvenir Mother pillow cover, c.1917-1918. Cream/off-white silk face panel with a printed two-color navy blue design. Layout includes a “REMEMBRANCE” banner across the top left, a ribbon banner reading “U.S. ARMY,” and “V…” (dot-dot-dot-dash) below — the Morse code V element used on military patriotic goods of this era. Center left features a vertical strip of stars flanked by floral decoration including roses and morning glories. The center displays the U.S. Army Great Seal eagle with shield above a scroll reading “IN SERVICE FOR MY COUNTRY AND YOU.” To the right, a Mother poem in gothic script reads: “Mother / With spirit calm as the summer sea / Moving in sweet serenity / I am sure there is no other / In all the World like you / My Mother.” A blank scroll banner runs across the bottom (no name filled in, typical of the format). Top right shows a flying eagle above a row of stars. The reverse is plain olive drab/khaki cotton fabric — a hallmark of WWI-era production, when Army OD surplus material was commonly used for pillow cover backs at base facilities. All four edges are finished with a multi-stripe woven braid trim in brown/gold/purple/navy, with substantial curly fringe in mixed brown, mauve, and cream tones. No label present. Per the Antique Trader, WWI Mother pillows were produced in silk while WWII-era versions shifted to rayon or acetate — the silk construction here, combined with the OD cotton reverse and design style, supports WWI attribution.
