This takes 4 AA batteries. Tested and works except Santa stays out. Not sure if he is supposed to go in or not. Tree turns and lights come on and it plays music on the hour except between midnight and 6 AM. You can set it to work but not go off every hour as well if you prefer. This is a beautiful clock!!!
