Impressive Giant Horned Helmet Shell (Cassis cornuta), an exceptionally large natural specimen measuring approximately 12.5 inches (317.5 mm) at its greatest dimension and weighing an extraordinary 6.4 pounds (2.9 kg).

Cassis cornuta, commonly known as the Horned Helmet or Giant Helmet, is a massive Indo-Pacific marine gastropod and one of the largest members of the helmet shell family Cassidae. Large mature examples are especially impressive display and natural-history specimens.

This example has tremendous presence. The exterior retains its natural cream coloration and weathered surface character, while the enormous aperture displays beautiful glossy peach, apricot and warm orange coloration. The heavy flared lip, pronounced teeth and characteristic projecting horns give the shell its unmistakable sculptural appearance.

Most importantly for a shell of this exceptional size, it remains remarkably intact overall. I find no serious breaks or major chips. There is expected natural surface wear, weathering and minor imperfections associated with a genuine collected shell of this size and age. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
