Hawaiian Lava, Volcanic Tephra from the Kilauea Eruption of January 24, 2026: $50.00
It was a day of Raining Rocks on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Large lava fountains erupted from the north and south vents on January 24th within Halemaʻumaʻu Crater — reaching heights of at least 1,475 feet — during Episode 41 of the ongoing episodic eruption at Kīlauea’s summit. Strong updrafts coupled with light winds blowing to the east and north sent lava fragments — called tephra — from those molten rock geysers over much of Puna, into Hilo and along the eastern edge of Kaʻū. These samples were collected at our homestead about 8 miles east of the vent. I have a number of specimens available, larger pieces of frothy and lightweight reticulite, from the size of a plum to an orange. If you make a purchase, you will receive one of the shown samples. When a sample is sold, I'll relist as supply lasts.
