NEW ALBANY & SANDUSKY CITY JUNCTION RAILROAD STOCK Rare Unissued 1880’s Indiana For Sale

This is a fascinating piece of American railroad history from the defunct New Albany & Sandusky City Junction Railroad Company. Chartered in 1847 to connect the Ohio River (New Albany, IN) and Lake Erie (Sandusky, OH), this company represents one of the many ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful rail ventures of the mid-19th century.

Status: The New Albany & Sandusky City Junction Railroad is a famous example of a "Paper Railroad." The line was never constructed and failed financially shortly after its founding, becoming insolvent by 1857.

Significance: This an important piece of scripophily that illustrates the speculative nature of early American infrastructure.

Condition: I am not a professional and this comes from my father’s collection of antique stocks and bonds. Given its age, it shows toning, foxing, edge wear, folds and stains but no major tears. It has an interesting train vignette, ornate borders, period type/font and printed by Snyder, Black & Sturn NY.
