Vintage S.T. Dupont Olympio Black & Palladium Extra Fine Nib Fountain Pen For Sale

This vintage S.T. Dupont Olympio fountain pen  is a timeless example of a writing instrument crafted from pecious Lacque De Chine (Lacquer of China) With Palladium plated brass embellishments and clip.

The pen features an exceptionally fine weight to balance ratio making for smooth flowing writing that other famous fountain pen manufacturers just can't match when using Xtra fine nibs.

It is both cartridge or converter fill and comes with the original dupont ink cartridges, just in case you run out of bottled ink, or need a more convenient way to fill your pen when travelling.

The fountain pen features an x-tra fine 18k gold Nib with rhodium plating. With proper care, nib should last a lifetime. 

The cap is adorned with an articulating Palladium plated pocket clip (no more snapped off pocket clips) adorned by a discreet black onyx inlay near clips apex.

The fine black resin making up the body of the pen (Lacque De Chine) was expertly hand applied by a master craftsman at their factory in Faverges France. 

The cap contains the official hallmark via a stylized rhus-vernicifera plant leaf in gold cinnabar carefully laid on top of base Lacquer coats before the clear top multiple coats of Lacquer were applied. This hallmark indicates genuine Chinese Lacquer, resulting in a scuff resistant finish equivalent to the hardness of fine bone China.

This pen is dated from well before the modern-day  fire at their workshop in Faverges as identified by the discreetly engraved serial number on the side of the clip.

While Dupont produces what are considered to be the finest Lacquer finishes in the world, some collectors believe that due to their extreme secrecy surrounding their production process, it is said that they had to piece all of their formulations and processes back together, with some collectors claiming that they can spot the difference in the depth of the finish on pieces pre and post fire. (I'm not so sure)

This pen was factory ordered with an extra fine nib and may not be suitable for a writer with heavy hand pressure, or a writer seeking to produce flamboyanty thick signature lines. It is however; a smooth writing instrument, that with only minimal maintenance can be counted on to produce ink on demand  without skipping and will function quite nicely even after a brief storage.

This pen is a true work of art with only 1 experienced owner, (myself),never loaned out or shared for others to damage. pen is in excellent condition. Many pens purchased online require nib honing or re-nibbing, not this one!
