c1938 Col. Cody’s TE Ranch RPPC Cody WY Buffalo Bill Museum Antlers & Skulls: $9.95
This real photo postcard captures Col. William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody’s TE Ranch, located along the South Fork of the Shoshone River near Cody, Wyoming. Established in 1895, it served as Cody’s personal retreat and working ranch, where he entertained guests and developed his vision for the town of Cody. The Buffalo Bill Museum, later incorporated into the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, was modeled after this ranch’s rustic log architecture. The photograph, taken by E.J. Hiscock of Cody, shows the ranch house framed by cottonwoods with the Absaroka Mountains rising behind. Particularly striking are the mounted antlers on the building’s side and the large foreground pile of antlers and cow skulls, emblematic of Cody’s frontier image and the hunting culture he helped romanticize through his Wild West shows. These displays offered both decoration and symbolism, representing strength, self-reliance, and the abundance of the American West. Zoom in on photos as they are considered part of the description.
